Have you discussed your concerns with your current attorney? That's probably the first order of business, so you have a better idea of whether in fact there's a problem your lawyer has caused, or some innocent action that you may have interpreted incorrectly. If you ARE sure that your attorney has caused some problem in your case, then ask any competent personal injury lawyer for a free consultation. If you decide to switch lawyers, there are various ways the first attorney's interests may be addressed. If in fact he did damage to your case, and he's fired "for cause," then it's POSSIBLE you may not owe him for his time, although you may owe for out-of-pocket costs advanced. If you fire your current lawyer, the new lawyer ought to discuss these and other options with you. Sometimes, lawyer number two just negotiates what portion of second lawyer's fee goes to first lawyer.

So, in other words, there are many facts that could affect how this might all work. Best thing is to bring all the paperwork you have to another lawyer, to help you analyze if lawyer number one has done something wrong or has been negligent. But by all means, start with talking to your CURRENT lawyer, and see what he or she says about your concerns.

Best of luck to you,

Sam
