legal separation/annulment

is legal separation applicable though there's no property to divide? or should we opt for annulment? is seven years of non communication enough ground for annulment?

Yes, legal separation is applicable even if there are no substantial or tangible property to divide. But as long as you are at it, go for the annulment. Legal separation does not give you the freedom to get married again, while an annulment allows you to get married legally again. The costs are practically the same.
