A fathers has legal rights in South Carolina to be a part of their child's life even if their name is not on the birth certificate. The real question may be if he will pursue those rights through the courts. Generally, the laws and the courts encourage fathers to be an active participant in child rearing. There may be, however, valid reasons why he should not be involved in the child's life. You should see a lawyer to help you determine if there are legal grounds to keep him out of your child's life.
