Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

custody of a minor child born out of wedlock

My son is six years old and lives with me. His father is unemployed and has not been rendered disable and has not held steady employment. He has never provided support and will not work. I do allow him to see our son but I am afraid in the event of my death he would get custody of our son and squander away my social security and not sufficiently provide for our son. Is there a legal way of appointing a guardian for my child or a custodian over the social security benefits he would receive?

Yes. The first question is whether or not Dad has legitimated paternity. For more info, see www.gsmithlawfirm.com
