Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

financial protection from child's marriage

A female fiance has health issues that could cost a large sum of money if anything should ever come of her situation. The groom's parents forbid the marriage because they are afraid that any accrued debt will become their responsibility if left unpaid. How can they completely protect their finances from the marriage without legally dis-owning their child?

Re: financial protection from child's marriage

How can they protect themselves financially? Well, they can attend the wedding, thru rice as they leave the church, get drunk at the reception and generally have a good time. So long as they don't sign anything accepting responsibility for their future daughter-in-law's medical problems they have no reason for concern. Meanwhile they need to stop imagining that they can "forbid" the marriage any more than they can forbid the sun from coming up in the morning.
