Re: confused about debts turned over for collection!

When a creditor turns an account over to a collection agency, the creditor expects the agency to handle the matter. You pay the agency, rather than the original creditor.

Sometimes the creditor will sell the debt to an agency, where the agency is now the proper creditor. Again, you pay the agency.

If you pay the original creditor after the debt is in the hands of an agent, the creditor can refuse payment. Or worse, accept payment and not know how to credit the payment, leaving the agency still on your back.
