Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

deferred adjudication removal

In 1992 I was arrested for posession of a controlled substance. I also have a misdemenor theft charge from 1997. I was put on Deffereed adjudication probation for both offenses and succesfully completed the probations. HOWEVER, it is still on my record and is still affecting me in employement and in renting an apartment. I am currently going to school and trying to put my past behind me but am still haunted. Is there anyway to remove these items? If so what is my 1st step and what will the approximate cost be?

Re: deferred adjudication removal

Yes, you can do something. You need to contact a criminal lawyer in your area and discuss having your records sealed. They will not be completely expunged, but under a new law passed, September 1, 2003, all felonies can be sealed ten (10) years after the person has completed the deferred adjudication, and five (5) years after the person has completed a misdemeanor deferred adjudication. Cost varies among attorneys.
