Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

harasment / lawsuit threats

A member of our church threaten me and my family with a lawsuit for name defamation towards his family because my wife made a written statement that he should not be involved in the church decision making as he owns a gas station that sells alcohol, cigarettes and also has a few slots machines.

He made me feel like I am nobody and because he had invested 1000000 in this country to get a business visa for his family will not be an issue for him to spend 100000 on a lawyer to take away from me the little that I own.

Also he had stated that the gas station he operates it is not his and the statements he understood we made are not true.

I Checked the county records and found that the gas station is owned by a corporation and he is one of the two owners.

What is my legal option on this case???
