Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

I don't think my lawyer is telling me the truth

I was hit by a drunk driver a year ago.I got a lawyer. We settled with the other drivers insurance company. Even though we got his policy limits it did not cover all my medical bills. My lawyer told me he filed a claim with my insurance company for underinsured motorist coverage 3 months ago. My main concern is that right after I had surgery I signed a document, without really understanding it, that said this is the final money I will ever receive for the accident and that the attorney-client relationship is over. Do I still have an attorney? If not why did he file a claim with my insurance company after I signed that? Also can I even receive money from my insurance company?

It is time to have a talk with your lawyer. If he said that he had filed the claim for underinsured motorist coverage [your own insurance policy], and you have heard nothing further from him, I assume that he is still your lawyer. It is customary and probably required that the lawyer provide you with copies of all correspondence (particulary, the "claim" that he filed). Ask for copies. If you cannot get them, then it may be time to file a grievance and get another lawyer. If he did make the claim, it may be time to sue your insurance company if they are dragging their feet for no good reason.

Unless you already have received some money from your own insurance company, I seriously doubt that you have signed anything would affect the underinsured motorist coverage.
