Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

Libel and slander

I am full time police sergeant and a I am also a board member of our local police officers association. I was recently accused in a written letter by a fellow board member/police sergeant of being racist. This letter was handed to our association president. The letter was typed up by this individual after he verbally accused me directly of being racist. This individual told me personally that he had heard from other people that I was calling him racist names and now he typed up this letter. I am planning to move up as high as I can in this police department and I am afraid that if this lies continue I may some day lose a chance to promote. Is there any legal action that I can take against this individual? Please help.

Re: Libel and slander

The remedy most likely would be an action for libel. There some other common law actions that may be available. Consult with an attorney.
