Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Virginia

I am a 21 year old with about $5,000.00 worth of credit card debt. I don't have a job and havent had one for some time now. I want to make payments on these bills but dont have the means nor the resources to do so. I called a lawer here in the town I live in and he said that filling bankruptcy isnt really a good choice for me, and that it would cost $1,800.00. If I dont have the money to pay the credit card company, how am I going to pay that?!? I need to know if I should just go ahead and file chapter 7 or if I should try to fine chapter 13. Or if there are any other options for me. Thank you for your time.

For $5000 of debt, you should not file bankruptcy. You are uncollectible now, but once you have a job you should be able to pay or settle the debt.
