Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

contract breach

I signed a contract 22/1/2002 and had bad service, asked the contract to be cancelled 1 week later. I still get threats from collecting attorney weekly by sms to pay, no correspondence was answered or adhered to. How old must debt be before written off? I have not paid any amounts during this time. Am I still liable for this debt?

Re: contract breach

Further comment: The statute of limitations on written contracts is five years in Virginia. If you paid nothing, agreed to nothing nor renewed any promises under the contract after cancelling, it would appear to be now beyond the applicable statute of limitations and therefore no longer enforceable.

Re: contract breach

Without reviewing the contract itself and the subsequent actions you've since taken since signing it and any actions on the part of the creditor or its assignees/agent(s), there's no credible way to tell--one way or the other.
