Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Am I Required to Reimburse My Employer for an On Property Auto Accident

I am in auto sales. A week ago Saturday I had an accident on our lot. Specifically I backed a new unsold car, a 2004 Audi A8, into another new unsold car, a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta.

The Audi sustained minor damage. Actually, just three small scratches. They were repaired the following Wednesday. The Jetta was more damaged.

Today my manager informed me that the General Manager said the damage cost was $1500. He said that he wanted me to pay $1000 of it.

Am I legally responsible for any of theses costs?

Unless you're working under a contract which specifically excludes you from responsibility for such accidents, I would say that your employer is within his rights to request that you pay for at least some of the damage caused by your apparent negligence.
