Legal Question in Disability Law in Washington

Disability Info Disclosure/Discrimination

I am a patron of my local public transportation system. This system offers discounted fares and passes for individuals with disabilities. When a customer with such a pass boards, he is required to show a company-issued photo ID, which I feel is reasonable. However, when the card is swiped, the fare box emits the message, ''PLEASE SHOW ID'' loudly enough that everyone on the bus can hear it. Since this only happens with this type of pass, other patrons become aware of a disability tha that person may not want disclosed. Also, as part of the application process, the company ensures the customer that none of their medical information (i.e. a mental illness) will be diclosed. While the nature of the disability is not divulged, the other patrons are left to infer or assume whatever they might, and the box's declaration becomes a scarlet letter to anyone using such a pass.
