Legal Question in Disability Law in Washington

Short Term Disability

I am currently working full time as a nursing assistant and am on my feet for extended periods of time. I have been having problems with both of my feet and have recently been diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in my feet. This condition is extremely painful, especially with as much walking as I do. Do I qualify for disability? I have to wear a walking boot on my (R) foot with an arch support. This helps some but it also causes--name removed--back pain from being off balance. I have also taken a fall twice at work(this is not safe). What do I need to do?

Re: Short Term Disability

I am unclear from your message whether you are asking about temporary or permanent disability.

You should take your job description to your doctor. You may need temporary accommodations, such as staying off your feet. Unfortunately, that may not be possible in your line of work. You may have to change professions.

If you are 55 or older, you may be able to get on permanent disability. If you are young, consider changing professions.
