Legal Question in Disability Law in Washington

shoplifting 101

if you have medically proved short term memory loss and a seizure disability and this is what caused your confusion to leave a store without paying for your items and you have no criminal history and had every intention of paying for your lunch items but just got confused and shakey and this is why you put the items in your bag and you feel it was just a big misunderstanding, do you have a better shot of having the charges droped on your court date? and also do these charges go on your perament record history tainting it forever which would make it hard for you to get a job or rent a apartment ect?

If you can provide medical verification it probably would help in your shoplifting case - you may be able to negotiate something with the prosecutor. But it's unlikely that the case would be "dropped" unless the store owner forgives you.

If you're an adult, yes, it would go on your permanent record. Apartment owners or employers usually ask for things that happened in the last ten years.

I suggest that you have an attorney work on this case for you. Meanwhile, pack and bring your lunch with you. You'll save a great deal of money that way, which you may need to use in paying for an attorney.

Good luck,

Merry
