Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

dismissal with prejudice

Four years ago when I was a juvenile, I went to court with a charge of assault in the 3rd degree and a misdemeanor. The case was dismissed with prejudice. And there was something else about a deferred disposition. Does this mean I was convicted of a felony and misdemeanor? Or was everything just dropped and I was never charged or convicted. I'm trying to get an apartment now and strangely, when they did a screening, this popped up on my record. Please help. Thanks.

Re: dismissal with prejudice

Court is very confusing. A good attorney would have explained it to you but you probably didn't have a good attorney. Any of what you say is possible. To know, I'd have to review the court dockets. You can do this yourself. Go to the court and ask to see your file. On the "judgment and sentence" it should say which charge was dismissed and which deferred. If you have further questions you can contact me directly.
