Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alabama

stolen water

I moved 5 years ago but still owned the property. The house remained vacant for the entire 5 years, with the 1st year having water service. I disconnected the service at that time. Now, I've sold the home and received a new water bill for my primary residence which included a fee for a broken lock and ''stolen water'' and a late fee. Am I responsible for this bill because I own the property? The bill is over $1,000 and evidently usage occurred between April and November of last year. We sold the home in November. I reside in Alabama and it makes no sense that the water co. didn't contact me before now, April is almost a year ago.

Re: stolen water

I would look into filing a police report and then submit that to them after you have one filed. They may be able to waive the fee or a substantial portion.
