Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

association treasurer stealing money

I own a condo in illinois. There is an association

for our individual building but is is dissolved. The

treasurer of the association did not handle the

paperwork for the state properly and that is why the

association was dissolved, but the building owners

have still been paying the $80.00 a month for the

association dues directly to the treasurer. The

treasurer refuses to tell the other owners of the

building what the $80.00 a month is covering and she

refuses to let us know how much money is in the

account or any other information for that matter.

Some of the owners have stopped paying the monthly

dues because of this. Now the treasurer is moving

and she still refuses to give any of the bank

information or pass on the treasurer position to

anyone else. She doesn't answer her door and she

doesn't respond the certified letters. We believe

she is planning to take the money out of the

association account and leave town with it. What are

our rights as owners even though the association is

dissolved? It is not her personal money to keep.

Please help what do we do?

Re: association treasurer stealing money

Sounds like you should be running to the court house to file suit. With all the condo members, you ought to be able to hire a lawyer. Good Luck!
