Rental Deposit
We are moving out of our Apartment and the owners say we have to have the carpet professionally cleaned. Do we have to legally do that? Also, they have a deposit in the amount of $885. We want to use that for the extra month they say we must pay for moving out early, but they say we can't use it for that. They say if they decide to refund it we will get it back after 45 days of moving.
We are not trying to be unfair, but do not want to just give them and additional $60. for carpet cleaning and $685. for rent and not receive the deposit back. please advise???

Look at your lease and see if you agreed to the professional shampooh and whther you can apply your security deposit to the last month's rent. Most leases will not allow you to do so.
