Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Indiana

My mother passed away in Feb. 06 and the estate was settled and closed in 07. Just last week I received a statement from her water company saying her balance as of 5-2011 was $.00. I wondered why 5 years later they sent this. Then about five days later I received a letter from a collection saying she owed $140.00 to this water company, and I should notify them. Should I even bother.

Once the estate is opened, there is a time limit, now long passed, for creditors to file a claim against the estate. As long as the collection letter isn't against you, I would not worry about it. You might inform them about the passing of your mother and tell them that the estate has long been closed.
