Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

finding adoptive parents for an older child?

My son is currently five. He has been living with his grandmother (my mom) for the last two and a half years. There has never been any legal bindings on this at all. However, I have recently come to learn that my mom and son are living in horrible conditions almost next to being on the street, she has no job, and where they are living there is no running water. I cannot afford to care for my son, but, I do not wish to place him in to the state foster care system. Is there any way that I could find someone to adopt him to where he will be loved by a caring family even at five?

Re: finding adoptive parents for an older child?

There is apparently a large piece of the puzzle missing to the background information you have given. Before taking the drastic measue of terminating your parental rights, you or your mother need to contact any and all agencies that can assist financially. Taking a 5 year old away from their primary care provider can has devastating impact on the child.

Now, to answer your direct question, there are many agencies that assist with adoptions, such as Catholic Social Services. In fact, that might be a place to start to see if there are resources avaialable to preserve his current home.
