Regardless of whether you acknowledged the debt, or some part of it, it is still their job as the plaintiff in the case to prove it. You may acknowledge that you had an account with the creditor, but has the debt been sold to another party? Has the statute of limitations passed? Is the amount they are seeking the correct amount? These are all valid questions. I recommend that you retain counsel.

Our office routinely and successfully defends clients in credit card and other debt cases. Even if you owe the money, we can make sure that the plaintiff does not take advantage of legal rules and procedure to win by default, and we can give you the time and space that you need to build up your own settlement reserve fund. We are able to negotiate favorable settlements on behalf of our clients for much less than they owe, without a judgment or other negative credit event being reported on the client's credit.

Feel free to contact our office, and ask about our sliding scale fees!
