Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

What can employers ask?

I would like to know what a past employer can tell a future employer about your employment history. What are they not allowed to tell.

What kind of questions can a future employer ask a past employer and what kind of questions can they not ask.

Are past employers allowed to go into detail about you to any future employers?

Re: What can employers ask?

Short answer: They can say anything they want.

However, some things may render them liable to the employee for damages and other legal consequences.

If they are truthful, they have certain protections, but many employers don't want to risk a lawsuit, so they ONLY verify dates of employment, which is too bad for really great employees who should be raved about.

If you have anything specific, please call me and I'll be happy to discuss.
