Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Accounts recivable outstanding

I sold an automotive shop 6 months ago. People owe me money still. Some are avoiding me. I am now sending invoices return receipt. Can I charge interest? Some are almost a year old. Can I place a lien on property? One customer has a restaining order from his wife and I can't find him. Please help. All total about 4 grand. Thanks, Jay

Re: Accounts recivable outstanding

Of course you can sue...you can request interest at 9% from the date the funds should have been paid to you. You can start small claims actions in the court in the county where your debtor(s) reside and HOPE that after you win judgments (if you can prove your claims) you can find assets. Usually this would be funds in bank accounts using RESTRAINT SUBPOENAS that are available AFTER get a money judgment. Good luck.
