Legal Question in Family Law in United States Minor Outlying Islands

Giving up Paternity

Next i will be heading to court. with no lawyer. I asked my childs father to sign off paternity rights . He agreed. know he oews about 6000.00 in Child Support. My question is My husband wants to adopt my our baby. now my daughter has only known my husband and her father and no one else. Bottom line if i ask the judge or his lawyer to legally change her name to my married name and seal the record in exchanged for the owed child support. can that and is that possible. my ex has no intress in my baby wich is GREAT for my husband and I because we are a family us three. and want NOTHING to do with the ex. and same goes for the other party. Know what are my options i cant not afford a lawyer but im meeting with his lawyer next week . please advice

Re: Giving up Paternity

What you are asking might be possible, but only if the proper pleadings are on file. A termination and adoption of the child is the proper procedure. You might be able to afford counsel, but you will need to make many calls, to locate someone that is willing to accept your case based upon a payment plan. The forgiveness of child support is possible only in limited circumstances, and you should not be willing to 'give away' your child's security in exchange for a 'name'.
