Legal Question in Employment Law in Alabama

Uniforms

The company I work for requires us to wear uniforms. About six months ago they had a uniform company come and measure us for uniforms. The pants I received, when worn my crouch was approx. 6 inches lower than it should have been, and the length was approx. 4-5 inches to long.

which we have been told that if we come to work and have holds, stains, or any other damage, we could be sent home.

If the company reguires personnel to wear unifoms, are they not responsiable for replacement of unservicable uniforms.

Does the employee have to wear a uniform that does not fit properly. We were informed that it did not matter what the uniforms looked like, to wear them.

We were only issued only three pants and shirts, If an employee works a five day week, should he not have been issued five pants and shirts.

The main question is I guess, do I have the right to refuse to wear a improperly fitting uniform and can the company send me home for worn uniforms if they do not have a new replacement uniforn.

If there is a law that covers this and if so where can I get a copy of it for my protection.

Can the company be sued for sending me home for this sitution.

PLEASE ANSWER AS SOON AS POSSIABLE

THANKS

Re: Uniforms

Short answer is yes, they can require you to wear it and they can probably get away with firing you if you don't, unless you are a member of a union, or unless you have a written employment contract, or unless they are illegally discriminating against you because of your race, sex, age, handicap, religion, national origin, etc. The key is whether they treat all employees alike in this regard. You need to sit down with an attorney in your area and discuss this further.
