Legal Question in Employment Law in California

A potential employer has conducted a background check and contacted my references. Now they have asked for documentation to confirm my current salary. Is that a request I have to honor? It seems inappropriate to me.

It is a common request by made by employers. Nothing illegal about it. You don't have to provide it. They don't have to hire you.
