Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I had a work related injury at my former employer 3 years ago (2 jobs ago). I was diagnosed with tendinitis of the wrist. Now I have a new job and the pain is back. It is making it very difficult for me to do my job. But I had another job between this one and the job where I was injured. I did not experience as many problems at the previous job because the nature of my work was a bit different. If I file a claim at a current employer, will the old employer have to pay? The doc at the time said I could go back to work and that the injury was better. This was 3 years ago.
