you rent an apartment to a tenant, a window gets broken, tenant said ''a rock was thrown through window'' by unknown person, who payes for window ? rental agreement has usual legal verbage, ''apt was free of damage'' ect.

You would need to show that the damage was caused by the tenant. If the glass broke into the property, it would indicate that something outside caused the damage. If glass broke to the outside, then it would appear that it was caused from inside.
