Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in California

Sexual Harrassment by a subordinate co-worker

I am a married male executive in a large company. A single divorced female who works in another department (I in no way in her chain of command) has consistently and persistently expressed an interest in me. The situation is becoming very uncomfortable.

Will anyone believe me that a subordinate female is harrassing a married, senior, executive male? I don't want her fired...I just want her to stop and realize I am married and am not interested in a relationship with her.

If she persists despite your attempt at informally resolving the matter, you might have to report it to Human Resources to deal with. Reporting it to her supervisor might not be the best idea because of confidentiality concerns.

Your options range from requesting that HR confidentially intervene, to filing suit if you have already complained to the company without remedy. If you have already bluntly spoken with her, take action now and complain to the company. Make clear your desired remedy. If you need legal help, contact me.
