Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Ex Employer

I know for a fact that an ex employer has said things to prospective employers preventing me from obtaining a job in my field. Of course it's ''grapevine'' communications so there is no solid evidence since it's verbal. What my ex employer is saying things that are not totally factually true and places me in a bad light. One time I heard a lawyer on TV say there is some sort of letter a lawyer can draft and send to my ex employer to stop this in the future so that I can obtain a job. I forgot what type of letter it was called. Can someone tell me what type of letter this would be called ? thanks

Re: Ex Employer

The employer cannot lie about you, but the employer is free to express his opinion about you, even if it is a bad opinion. You need proof to do anything about it, though. You can't sue over what you hear through the grapevine.
