Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Prenuptial Agreement - Name Change

I had a prenup drawn up before I got remarried. This was signed and notorized and it had my maiden name on it. Now that I am married I would like to change my name to my new husband's name on everything. If I change my name on my accounts and mutual funds which are on the prenup to be my new married name, will this make the prenup void since it has my maiden name with those accounts and mutual funds or will it still be valid?

Re: Prenuptial Agreement - Name Change

The essential thing to remember is that no matter what name you choose, you are the one who signed the agreement. It would be valid.

Very truly yours,
