Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I was a Production Manager for a local factory. I have never been in any trouble, have always had sparkling evaluations, broke production records for our department. 3 years ago I was removed from that position for the economy. I have never been given any other reason. Since that time the company has hired several production managers and has never once offered me that position back. I have bid on jobs that range from Team leader to Production Manager and either don't get an interview or when I do I get beat out by people less qualified than me. My life has been made a living hell over the last 3 years for no reason. I have done everything that was asked of me. Do I have any kind of punitive lawsuit?

There are a few questions that need to be answered: 1) was there a collective bargaining agreement in place when you were laid off; 2) Is there an employer practice (does not necessarily need to be in writing) for recalling laid off employees; 2) If you are as good as you say, do you know why your employer will not hire you back? Aside from the employer violating a specific law or their own recall policy or collective bargaining agreement, I don't see a cause of aciton.
