Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I work for a company that does work out of state. When out of state we recieve per diem, up until a few months ago we would recieve this money before leaving for the job. Now we get this money the same way we get paid for our hours worked, which means if i leave on monday the 12th i would not recieve any per diem until friday the 23rd and have to pay for all expenses including the hotel, meals and gas for the work truck for 12 days out of pocket. This puts a real strain on being able to pay my bills at home and i was wondering if this is even legal.

I do not know of anything improper with this procedure as long as you are still getting the per diem. I would be concerned about the viability of the company unless this is an industry wide practice.
