Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maine

My dog went onto my neighbors property where they have two rottweilers in their yard who are on an electric fence. The dogs attacked my dog and the damage was not repairable and we had to put her down. Do I have any recourse for the vet bill?

If your dog did not go on your neighbor's property, my answer might be yes. However, since you need to prove negligence, which in the realm of dog attacks means that the defendant dog owner did not have adequate control over their dog, you would have to prove that the rottweilers were not under control...my opinion is that you have a very difficult, if not impossible case. I suggest getting other opinions. Sorry about your dog. You could always ask for the owner of the rottweilers to pay the bill, but I don't think that you could get a judgment forcing them to pay.
