Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

My employer is now making all employees complete a backround check. I was not told I would have to do one of these when I was hired and I have yet to recieve an offer letter from my employer even though I have been working there and recieving my paychecks for over a month now. Also, I have been told that I need to pay for my own backround check and if I do not I will be fired. Is this legal? I thought the employer was supposed to pay for background checks....

What your employer is doing is likely not illegal, it's just classless. There is no law preventing you from quitting this job and finding another.

Best of luck.*******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
