Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

company refuses to reimburse former employee for expenses after layoff

In Feb 2003 I was on business trip for former employer when I incurred a penalty drop off fee for rental car that was highly unusual immediately reported to my superisor at the time. The car was charged to my personal credit card and this individual told me to simply protest it via AMEX which I did twice. I was layed off 3 wks later, I immediately submitted expense report including this particular expense item, and also keeping him uptodate of proceeding with credit card company dispute claim filing. Immediately upon final decision, informed said person that $1000 was not to be altered, he informed me ''he $1,000 is not a business expense and the Company has no obligation to

reimburse for this item. ''The Company did not authorize you to leave the

rental car with another rental car company and incur the $1,000.'' Since I no longer work for this company I want to know what I can do to get my money back from them.

I am wondering whether there may be some way to challenge the fee the rental car company charged you--I would have to know more about what happened --please give me a call if you'd like to discuss this,
