Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Labor Issue

Hello, I work for major retailer. I started employment in May of 2003. My fiancee also works there and has been employed there since 2004. We were engaed when she was hired. I am currently the Supervisor of a department that she is not in . She works in the on the two days of the week in which I am off. The problem is that in June, I was told that I had two options regarding my employment. Get promoted to Supervisor or voluntarily quit. I asked if there was an issue with my fiancee still working there and they said there was not. To avoid quitting, I took the Supervisor position. On October 5th, I was brought into the office by the store director. He told me that because I am engaged to an employee at the store I would have to transfer to another store. The closest one is another 15 miles away. I would like to know the legality of that descision considering the fact the we have been already working at the same company for 3+ years. Also considering that she works on my days off thus we don't work together. Thank you

Re: Labor Issue

I am afraid the employer has not done anything illegal because his reason may be a legitimate business reason. There may also be issues that could bring conflicts.
