Legal Question in Employment Law in Ohio

I took last friday off for personal reasons. When I went to work this AM I had no time card... went to the owner to inform him of this and was told I needed to go back home and write an essay as to why I want to work there... return with this essay this afternoon then he will decide if I have a job come Wednesday. Is this legal? Can he fire me for not writing a good essay or not writing one at all?

If you are an at-will employee, he can fire you for no reason at all! While his remedy seems childish, it is not illegal. If you want the opportunity to keep the job, write the essay.
