Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana
When a lawsuit is finished, is the client entitled to get his file back from his attorney? If so, is the attorney obligated to keep a copy of the contents of the file?

If the client has fully paid the attorney, he or she is entitled to the file. The attorney can keep a copy if he or she deisres to do so at his or her own expense.

Q 1, the answer is yes. Q 2, no, the attorney is not obligated to keep a copy if the client picks up the file, though they often do anyway.
