Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

Insurance lawsuit

Last November my apartment was in a fire due to a cigarette thrown into the garbage by my friend. Now the Insurance company is coming after me for compensation. I do not have the means to pay for this lawsuit, but I do own two motorcycles. Do they have the right to take them away from me to help compensate for the losses? Also, after speaking to some attorney's they told me that I would have to most likely settle out of court, but I don't have a job or any homeowner's insurance and I do not have an attorney. What are my options at this point and what should be my next move?

Re: Insurance lawsuit

If they get a judgement it is good for a long time. Just be certain that you answer any summons and complaint that is served. Likely without insurance the case will be discontinued. If not, you might need in turn to sue your friend who got you into this morass.

Good Luck
