Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Child Custody

I am single and have a 1 year old child. I have been living with my daughters father for over a year and want to leave to go back home to live with my parents in Texas. The father of my child says he will fight for custody of our child, making me scared to leave. My job does not pay me enough to support myself and daughter and I want to return home to my parents to continue my college education. My parents will support my child and I while I am getting my college degree. Can the father make me stay in Alabama and can he get custody of our child? Do I need to obtain an attorney to get child support from the father if we are not married?

Re: Child Custody

He probably can't make you stay in Ala., but he can certainly try to get custody. If he is indeed the father, then he can probably get visitation. You definitely need to meet with an attorney in your area to see what you need to do.
