Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

What rights do I have with a Power Attorney?

I have been keeping two children for the last six months with no support from there parents. I have a Power Attorney that has a state seal on it and I have the kids for three years. I had to make a copy for school and doctors visits. For the last four weeks their parents haven't gotten in touch with them and all of a sudden they come to the house in take them from me. Is the Power Attorney any good? What can I do about getting the children back? What rights do I have when they are with me? Do I need the police envolved? The children are my neice and nephew. The parents only want them to file taxes.

Don't know what your "power of attorney" says, but it probably does not give you legal custody of the children. You would probably need to file a petition for custody in the Juvenile court of your county. You need to speak with an attorney in your county who is familiar with this area of the law. good luck.
