Legal Question in Personal Injury in Alabama

Settlement

A friend in Alabama won a case against the State for failing to protect her as an employee of the State (she was attacked in her office) and was awarded a large sum of money (approx $1,000,000). She is recieving $2000 monthly from the state rather than a lump sum. My question is, is this normal practice? and what is the maximum amount monthly can she claim or expect?

I don't have enough information regarding the settlement facts to reply. It all depends on whether it was filed under worker's comp, a personal injury, etc.
