Legal Question in Elder Law in Arizona

Poa

I am POA for an elderly woman (financial and healthcare). I am spending more than ten hours per week doing everything from selling her house, running errands etc. Am I allowed to reimburse myself? She has told me to...but what is reasonable? The legal document says I can make these decisions but I feel weird taking some ladies money.

Re: Poa

To legally reimburse yourself for expenses incurred by you in the performance of your duties as her agent or to be compensated for your time spent, the law requires that specific authorization be provided in the POA document. If that authorization is there, then you can reimburse yourself with receipts for expenses, and you can charge a "reasonable" fee for your services. What is reasonable depends upon your circumstances and what she can afford to pay you. There is no fixed amount or formula. Depending upon your qualifications, you could be paid anywhere from $10/hr to $50 or more.

If there is no such authority, then you should have the lady make a new POA which does provide for payment.
