Time off for bone marrow transplant for brother

Can my company fire me if I request and/or take time off to be tested for a match and if I am chosen to be a marrow donor for my brother? He is in a life and death situation and I may the be perfect match for bone marrow.

State and federal laws that were written to provide job protection to employees who take leave to "care for" family members, only include caring for spouses, parents and children. Siblings are not currently included. You will have to plead to the mercy of the employer to allow you to take the time off.
